As Director of the Data Economy Division, Dr Karl leads MDEC’s efforts in getting numerous organizations to leverage on the power of data to make strategic business decisions, improve operational competences, drive revenue growth to create new and innovative business models as well as contribute towards the well-being of citizens at a national level.
The Data Economy endeavour includes driving the impact of key technologies such as Big Data Analytics (BDA) and Internet of Things (IoT) via a two-pronged strategy of growing the local supply of such solutions via industry development programs while carrying out digital transformation on the demand side. Dr Karl is currently driving the development of the national Artificial Intelligence Framework.
He holds a Bachelor Degree in Engineering from The University of Birmingham, United Kingdom and an MBA with Distinction and Doctor of Business Degrees from Charles Sturt University, Australia. He is also a Chartered and Professional Engineer. On top of that, he sits in the advisory board of several universities in Malaysia and has served as a judge in international Entrepreneurship and Innovation awards including EY Entrepreneur of the Year Malaysia from 2012 to 2016.
